The client asked Open Form to develop a Concept Design for an existing large-scale industrial building situated alongside the St. Lawrence River in Longeuil, Québec. The site was situated along the important #132 highway heading north from Longeuil and was opposite the beautiful river, giving incredible views of the waterway and downtown Montréal.
Our strategy was to maximise the building for new uses, as it is terrible under-used at the current time. By introducing new parking, facade glazing and by reorganizing the interior space, we were able to significantly shape the building into an efficient, sustainable new commercial, office and light industrial space. The existing building has an expressive saw-tooth roof with overhead windows, that we decided to exploit for formal expression.

La nature du mandat de Open Form était de développer un concept de réaménagement d’un grand édifice industriel existant situé le long du Fleuve St-Laurent à Longueuil, Québec. Le site est situé le long d’une autoroute importante (132) au nord de la ville de Longueuil. Faisant face à cette belle rivière, le site en question procure des vues incroyables sur la rive et le centre-ville de Montréal.
Notre stratégie était de maximiser le bâtiment pour de nouveaux usages puisque sous-utilisé à ce moment. Par l’introduction de nouveaux stationnements, une nouvelle façade de verre et une réorganisation spatiale interne, nous avons pu convertir la forme du bâtiment en de nouveaux espaces commerciaux, à bureaux et industriels efficaces et durables. L’expression formelle de notre proposition a été inspirée de la toiture existante en dent-de-scie qui permettait un apport de lumière important dans l’ensemble du bâtiment.
